You do not have to go back to stock when flashing a tune onto the vehicle. To check the status of your X-Cal2 connect it to your PC and run the Live Load 3 program. In the middle of the screen it will tell you the firmware version, state (locked or unlocked), and program currently loaded on the vehicle (0 for stock, 1, 2, or 3 for aftermarket tunes). If the prog=stock (original vehicle flashed back to stock) and the tuner is locked you can click the 'Unlock Device' button, the tuner can now be used on another vehicle.
