I have that gpu in my 09 iMac with the same stats (512M RAM.) I would recommend a newer gpu. Since 5. Coolscan V Windows 7 Driver. 1.0, Motion would not let me create 4K projects (I'd get a dialog box telling me flat out I couldn't do it.) [It kind of ticked me off because I was in the middle of a rather large 4K based project at the time and I couldn't reopen it!] Motion consumes VRAM rapidly and without mercy (it buffers the 'preview' in VRAM -- 512Mb is good for maybe 7-8 seconds of 1080/30 RAM preview). There also might be problems with support for OpenGL and OpenCL with a card that old (it's over 5 years old now). All that said, you can use that gpu for *most* projects up to 1080/60p if you like. Just be mindful of the limitations.

If you're just starting out in Motion, there's probably not a lot that you'll run into that will be all that restrictive. If you're not having any problems with the Effects, Titles, and Generators in FCPX, you should be able to work in Motion 'comfortably enough.' At some point though, you're going to need more.
