Input director does a decent job I think, i'd certainly include it in a little package of software for dual boxing it's at least VERY good at sending keyboard/mouse over network (so removes the need for a hardware KVM) with just edge of screen transition. Rather than switching back and forth you'd be able to just flick the mouse pointer between screens. (this assumes you are using 2 computers) There's definitely some bits of software that can specifiy which wow screen recieves which key presses (i.e you can set 1-5 to broadcast to both, 'q' to be sent only to the 'slave' character to trigger a '/follow mainchar' macro). I forget the name of this and I remember it being a boss to set up but if you are only playing on 1 PC that's what you'll want to use.

Edit: It's called autohotkey. Have a quick look at the wiki on the old Have a little poke around on curse, there was a dual box addon that made a lot of things easier unless they broke the functionality of it.

If you want direct control of 2+ characters you WILL have to go the hardware route (wireless keyboard and mouse that can talk to several recievers, identical computer kit). There's definitely a lot of multiboxing guides out there though, i'd go have a google and a read around.
